In their absence, the sinister PAVEMENT POUNDERS have risen from the ashes of the ROAD RUNNING CLUB and will not rest until the E Check, the last of the hash marks, and all off-road running has been destroyed. EEEEEEEEEEEE. With the support of VON TRAMP H3, our hare, 2 Guys 1 Hole, leads a brave RESISTANCE. He is desperate to find true trail and gain the pack’s help in restoring peace and shiggy to the hashing galaxy. Von Tramp has sent their most daring hounds on a secret mission to Stowe, where an old State Forest area has been discovered that holds a clue to the shiggy’s whereabouts…. Hole’s infamous geohashing trail is back! If you’re new to these, it’s where he smashes together geocaching and hashing. Instead of regular marks, Hole hides adult beverages in the woods with GPS coordinates on them and the pack then crashes through the woods to the next stop. Stops feature anything like snacks, beverages, Stormtroopers, swimming holes, Allen’s, and more. Here’s a few additional and important notes from regarding this weekend’s adventure: Getting to Trail The start of trail is on a rough minimally maintained class 4 road that many cars will be unable to travel. The hare strongly recommends AWD and at least 8 inches of ground clearance due to unavoidable protruding rocks and potentially deep mud. There is also very little parking available at the start of the trail. As such, carpooling is strongly recommended; if you car does meet the above criteria please consider offering a ride to others. The hare suggests that folks interested in carpooling meet at the Waterbury Park and Ride at 10:15AM; if you do not have the contact info of anyone to carpool with please contact hello@vontramph3.com. The hare can offer several people a ride to trail, though this particular return ride won’t be until Sunday morning since the hare will be camping (see below). If your car can’t make it to the start of trail, and you are unable to carpool, you can park at the Meadow Spur Trail parking lot on Brownsville Road, then roadwalk 1.5 miles to the start of trail at the end of McCall Pasture Road. Note that this parking area is also fairly small. If your car can make it, the start of trail is at the small turnaround area at the end of McCall Pasture Road. The start of McCall Pasture road contains a latched but unlocked gate; please latch the gate behind you. The Trail Start time of 10 am. Trail could potentially take 7 hours or more; please bring a cranium lamp for safety. Trail is about 5.69 miles as the crow flies, but mostly bushwacking so the actual distance travelled will be considerably longer, and there is over 2000’ of steep elevation gain. There will be alcohol and a light lunch / snacks provided on trail. Please bring your own water; there will be an opportunity to refill water midway through. Trail will contain periodic caches with the coordinates of the next cache. The hare recommends the free “Topo Maps US” for iPhone; be sure though to download both the app, as well as the in-app map tiles for Stowe and the Worcester Range, before you leave your house as internet service is minimal to non-existent at the starting location and throughout trail. After Trail The hare will be grilling up meaty and vegan foods for dinner at the end of trail. The hare will also be camping out for the night afterwards in the woods near the starting location; this will be dispersed primitive camping with NO facilities. Please bring your own tent/sleeping bag/whatever else you need if you intend to camp.
