DH4 #1671 Sturgeon Full Moon Hydrant Hunt Hash (Run/Walk) Date: Friday, August 28, 2026 Time: 8:00 pm (NOTE LATER START TIME) Mass start at 9 pm. You must get there early to get yourself registered with the hash and the MVOC Orienteering club! If you get there after 8:30 you'll be fighting the crowds to register and figuring out what the hell is going one. There is a "chalk talk", without the chalk, to explain the rules before the start. Location: Yellow Springs Station, 101 Dayton St, Yellow Springs, OH 45387 There is public parking at John Bryan Community Center, 100 Dayton St, Yellow Springs, OH 45387 Cost: $8 for the course fee: Register at least a day beforehand at: https://runsignup.com/Race/OH/YellowSprings/SturgonMoonHydrantHunt. You can probably register on the day of the event, but it will take longer and it's a burden on the event organizers. Hares: Dah Gimp (sort of) Hash Trail: We returning to the old days! So old that many of you never attended this event before. Excitingly it has now returned! The Miami Valley Orienteering Club (MVOC) in conjunction with the Dayton Hash House is holding a night fire hydrant orienteering/hash event. We'll first organize ourselves into teams of usually one to four. The categories are runners and walkers. We'll then go through the process of registering, getting the maps, and planning our routes. Once the horn goes off at 9 pm we are scatter like little lost rabbits looking for circled fire hydrants on the map. 😅 The map is a newly improved orienteering street map of Yellow Springs showing the location of all the fire hydrants. Only the circled fire hydrants are the ones we need to find. The street names are not shown on the map to make it more difficult...and you also can't use your phone to cheat! The mass start is at 9 pm, where all the teams will try and find as many of the circled fire hydrants as possible within the one-hour time limit. After we are finished at 10 pm, we'll do circle to punish the winners and then go to the On-After for food and drink. Hashing in General: (Note: This one is a little different then, what we normally do). This is a fun run or hike where you will follow a trail of flour not knowing exactly where it will lead. One or more beer/water stops along the way! In hashing you'll will be running/walking as part of a group. The faster runners will be out ahead looking for flour marks on the ground trying to figure out which way the trail route goes. Sometimes they go the wrong way which allows the slow runners/walkers to catch up and even get ahead. This allows everyone to go at their own pace and stay together as a group. Dogs: Allowed on trail. Leash is required. Must be friendly to people and other dogs. Not allowed inside Ziggy's. Children: This event is for all ages; however, for circle adults only for first-time hashers, since many of us do drink beer. 😋 On-After: Ye Olde Trail Tavern for pizza and beer, 228 Xenia Ave, Yellow Springs, OH 45387 On-On After: Yellow Springs Brewery, 305 Walnut St, Yellow Springs, OH 45387 Things to bring/wear: Whistle you never blow Compass if you have one Flashlight Hash mug or a free plastic cup.
